There are Medicare Mental Health Plans, under the Better Access to Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and General Practitioners initiative, for people who need assistance with mental health problems. A Better Mental Health Outcomes General Practitioner Mental Health Treatment plan and referral from your GP to an allied health practitioner will entitle to you to a rebate from Medicare for fees from an eligible mental health practitioner.
Medicare eligible services are limited to 10 individual sessions per client, per calendar year (January to December). The referring General Practitioner is required to review the Plan after the initial 6 sessions.
Please consult with your General Practitioner about obtaining a mental health care plan.
See this Australian Government Better Access to Mental Health Care Fact Sheet for further information.
